Potsdam, Germany
Potsdam has me momentarily considering suburban mom life - you know the one where I drive a BMW that I can't parallel park in the city and live in a condo with exposed brick and go to the Sunday farmer's market and know my local butcher? Key word: momentarily.
Potsdam is the capital of Brandenburg and its palaces and parks show the opulence of the Prussian kingdom. Sanssouci Park (“without cares”) is gorgeous - Sanssouci Palace is my favorite (over the much larger Baroque-style New Palace). Its yellow facade, mini vineyard, and Rococo architecture are stunning against a blue sky.
I ordered in all German for the first time at this gelato shop (Eismanufaktur - Brandenburger Str. 67, 14467 Potsdam) and proceeded to have the most satisfying scoop of fior di latte gelato ever.
FUN FACTS
- Potsdam has its own Brandenburg Gate, built 20 years before the one in Berlin.
- Frederick William I of Prussia really loved the Dutch and built a whole neighborhood in the "Dutch" style.
