Strasbourg, France
If you think I spent this whole weekend on the hunt for my next croissant while also singing this song on repeat, you'd be 100% correct.
We made the eight hour drive in six, fueled by Rewe snacks (read: sugar!!) and a very interesting Spotify mix.
We spent our first day literally walking back and forth around town trying to complete all of the stops included on the Strasbourg Food Tour. Highlights include a small candy store owned by an elderly couple who were having a casual 2pm lunch & drink in their shop and pretzels because pretzels are always good...and a fat slice of torrone (see below).
EAT
- Grab a pretzel or a quick breakfast at Boulangerie Woerlé (10 Rue de la Division Leclerc, 67000 Strasbourg, France)
- Ask for a tour here with Therry - 10 EUR gets you a tour, tasting, and snacks at Au Péché Vigneron (156 Route de Strasbourg, 67140 Gertwiller, France)
- There's a speakeasy upstairs at Moonshiners (Grand'Rue, Strasbourg, France) & a delicious onion tart at this restaurant where nobody ate their dinner rolls...(Maison Kammerzell, Place de la Cathédrale, Strasbourg, France)
SEE
- Climb to the top of Cathédrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg (Place de la Cathédrale, 67000 Strasbourg, France) for stunning views of the city.
- Markets - there are multiple markets in what seems like every plaza. If scouring vintage racks is your thing, you have Sundays planned out for you.
- Boatarama Tour - We couldn't do this because they were shut for COVID, but it's apparently a great way to see the city.
Honestly, walking around and taking random turns here and there is how we got a feel for this small city. It was easy enough to walk around everywhere without a bike and we made multiple trips back and forth from our Airbnb (right outside the island that creates the Old Town) without much trouble.
The most interesting part of this trip with the Franco-German culture and history, which is confusing but worth reading up on.
